Om Namah Shivaya

Yoga Elevates - Home of hand made Malas - Mantras, Meditation & Yoga Resources

This mantra literally means: “Om, Salutations to the energy of transformation."  Another translation is: “Om and salutations.  May the elements of this creation abide in me in full manifestation.”   Or “Om, adoration to Shiva.”
In the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, we experience Shiva as the destroyer of evil, selfishness, ignorance, and illusion.  Thus by repeating this mantra we are lighting a fire in our minds to burn away these unwanted qualities.

Yoga Elevates - Home of hand made Malas - Mantras, Meditation & Yoga Resources

A mala is a set of 108 prayer beads strung together and is used as a counting devise for japa.  The material of the beads has an effect on our body chemistry.  Malas are not only good for counting devices, but they are also good centering devices.  It is said that engagement of the fingers is engagement of the consciousness.  Mala practice creates a habitual centered state of consciousness.

When practicing japa with a mala, one should observe the following guidelines:

The Four Aims of Life and Yoga Elevates Malas

Yoga provides us with a set of goals or objectives to peruse in our lives, the purusharthas, or four aims of life: Kama, Artha, Dharma and Moksha. This concept, still relatively alien to Western thought, is a guide for living, to many of us living a spiritual life and practicing yoga and meditation.

At Yoga Elevates we adopted these "Aims" as a paradigm for our Malas, giving them a sense of identity and context. In this same spirit, I have looked into each of these Malas to find, what I see or feel as the primary aim to which they best correspond. This is obviously a simplification of some complex concepts and by no-means are my "identifications" anything more than my own insights. However, when taken in the context of this website, perhaps you may hear of feel or sense or see the Crystal, Mantra, Chakra's, Colors and even the purusharthas of a Mala that is the right companion for your spiritual journey.

Please use the four aims to help you refine your search for the perfect mala.  Once there continue to refine your search by chakra, color, crystal and most importantly, your intuition.  Allow your intuition guide you in finding the perfect companion for your life's journey.

The word Chakra in Sanskrit means 'wheel' a fitting name - the wheel of breath, the wheel of life...  While only precise in our spirit, Chakras are another common denominator in the human experience.  As simple as they are complex - Chakras give us yet another way to understand the energies put into the creation of each Mala as well as the subtle (sometimes not so) thoughts and feelings which guide us.  You may choose to start your search, by selecting a chakra below to see which Malas are linked to that Chakra.  From there you may choose to further reduce the selections by choosing one of the 4 Aims of Life, color, crystal and of course, most importantly, your intuition.  Ultimately this is just an exercise in ever-awakening the intuitive mind, whether your choice is guided by careful study and selection or impulse - the resulting Mala is a friend, quite possibly for life.  ENJOY!
